Visiting Family

On Monday, even though the family was sick, we decided to get out into the fresh air. Better than being cooped up in the apartment all day.

Dan and I had been talking about family who had passed on. On a whim, we decided to take a visit to Holy Cross Cemetery; a place where the kids didn't have to worry about getting anyone sick, we could get a little exercise, didn't have to spend money, and learn about each other's family. Dan and I both have family buried there. I have a ton of family on my grandfather's side. We looked up plot numbers online and every single Wissink buried there (approx 10 or so) is a family member. There is even more family with different surnames but it would have taken us all day to find them all. My great great grandmother Gertrude, who was my Grandpa Don's grandma, died at the age of 108 in 1995. I was 5 years old at her 100th Birthday party. If my great grandpa Lawrence hadn't passed away there would have been 5 generations together at that party.

My Grandpa Don and Grandma Joan have both buried their parents at Holy Cross. Evelyn was Joan's mother, and George was her father. Joan also has a grandmother buried right next to her dad.

Grandpa Don's dad, Lawrence passed away when my mom was 14. I believe he was a fireman here in Spokane. His passing was unrelated to his work. Don's mother, Theresia is buried with Lawrence.

Don and Joan also have a baby buried at Holy Cross. Theresa was stillborn in 1964 at full term. We left a pinwheel spinning and some flowers for her.

Dan's dad, Steve, has buried both his parents at Holy Cross also. Eugene (Gene) & Lucylle (Lucy). When we decided to go to the cemetery on Monday, we didn't realize that same day was the 41st anniversary of Lucy's passing. Dan brought a single pink rose for the grandmother he never met.

Dan and I told stories to each other about our families, and we wore Ian out with all the walking around.

It was peaceful, beautiful, and we are both very happy we went.

We Have a Tooth!

Aidan has one tooth popping up (bottom). Just one lonely tooth.

At 7 months he weighed 24lbs. I still can't find my tape measure. Ian must have a really great hiding spot.

Aidan is eating just about everything we eat now. He loves fresh pears. I wait until they're pretty soft and then peel a slice and let him hold it and mush it. He's also a fan of yogurt. At Easter he had a hunk of ham in one hand and a piece of dinner roll in the other.

No crawling yet but he's close. He gets all the way up on his knees and his arms are straight up. Sometimes he moves his hands forward but then drops his tummy down. Kind of like a worm movement. Still sleeps through the night, even through the teething. (knock on wood!).

Ian is doing well in school and just had his class photo taken last week. He still loves his Thomas the Train toys too. A couple months ago he decided to forgo his collection of motorized train and track for the wooden sets. Ian is also taking swim lessons at the Y in the valley.

Other than that, no exciting news. :) Just the daily stuff around here.

Oh and the cat has found a new hiding spot:

I'm Sick

- That's what Ian says

Poor baby.

First, we believe Dan brought it home from work. His desk sharer called in sick the Friday before Easter. He works days and Dan works nights. Easter Sunday, we got together with family. Sunday night, Dan got a migraine. Monday morning, he was really sick - headaches, nausea, stomach pain, and a really really bad cough that made his head pound. He still went to work, what a trooper. Tuesday, he was worse. He talked to his dad, and his dad was also sick. Wednesday, Ian started with 104 degree fevers, lasting until Friday morning. Friday, Aidan had a low grade fever, 101 and a cough. Friday night, croup set in for Ian. He sounded like a basset hound. I have never heard it like that before. We only have a warm mist humidifier so at midnight, Dan trekked to Walgreens (about 2 min away) and brought home a cold mist humidifier. I stayed up until 3am, holding Ian upright so he could breathe better. At one point, he woke up with a choking noise, trying to gasp air. Very scary. I almost wanted to take him to the ER then and there but he settled back into sleep. Saturday during the day, it seemed like Ian was healthy again until tonight, the barking cough came back. He's been in his room with his cold mist machine and it's working wonders for him. Aidan still has a plugged nose (booger sucker time), and Dan is plugged up and a bit blah. I am the one who got it the least - headaches, nausea, stomach pain - but it's all come and gone and it hasn't been as bad as the boys or Dan have had it.

We are a sick bunch over here.

On one of the 104 degree fever nights, I brought Ian's mattress out to the living room so he could watch tv and fall asleep.

Siblings

The boys had their pics done today. It was mostly for Aidan's 6 months (oops 7 months!) but they had a couple shots together...

and here's one of the little A man alone...

Designing

I have recently started designing digital scrapbooking kits. Here's my latest accomplishment. I actually drew some of these elements with a pen tablet. I am also working with a designer to put my stuff into her online store. More info to come soon :)
